One of our members on Aquatic Passion is known for providing us great updates about the Thai Culture and Environment. The most recent is best called ‘A Peek Inside Thailand. Below is the article, the article and information was written by block2, on Aquatic Passion. The photos were also provided by him. Enjoy!
Hi All,
As mentioned previously, where I’m staying is a lovely location, but it does have it drawbacks, as mentioned a while back, we got flooded twice last year, here’s a few pics
At the beginning of last year the council installed a large water tower for the lake to supply the village with water…and it soon started to drain the lake..but it seemed to rain everyday from April to October and the lake got shallower and shallower, rather than filling up, so the Tower was doing it’s job, as you can see from the pics the village lake is around 30 metres deep.
Here’s a couple of old girls and their dogs from the village, they come everyday to catch smallfish to feed their dogs and themselves, they use bamboo sticks with a bit of line and hook and a bit of wood as a float..as the water fell so they had to climb further down the side of the lake…
That lady there climbing up the steep bank is in her 70′s..one slip and she would be in serious trouble. The other girl is her grandaughter.
Here’s the water tower
Like I say I couldn’t work out why the lake was getting shallower and not filling up…it had not stopped raining for months, I had to go on a visa run and when I left the lake was almost empty I was gone 1 day and upon my return the lake was full…I couldn’t believe it…but the installation of the water tower, even though it is an eyesore, saved us from a flooding this year.
This pic is opposite to where the 2 women are climbing up the bank, so you can imagine how deep it is..
All the best for 2010 to all at AquaticPassion

January Photo Of The Month Kickoff ( Aquatic Passion )
January 20, 2010 by AquaticPassion
Filed under Catch All, Freshwater fish, Photo Contests
Aquatic Passion- Today, Aquatic Passion began that 10 day voting period for the forum’s monthly ‘Photo Of The Month’ contest in which member’s vote of their favorite photo in which other members submitted. January’s ‘POTM’ has started off very successfully, with anxious voters, and viewers, and more entries that average. That’s correct, Aquatic Passion has more ‘POTM’ entries than average a sign that the forum is really becoming a successful community in which fish/aquatic keepers and hobbyists who have a passion for aquariums, and fish, or who just simply enjoy keeping them in their homes can come together and discuss this important hobby.
If you haven’t voted for your favorite photo, then you should. It’s easy. If you do not have an account on Aquatic Passion, simply follow this link http://aquaticpassion.animal-world.com/index.php?app=core&module=global§ion=register and register to get a new account! If you do have an account on Aquatic Passion, then please follow this link and vote!
Hopefully this contest will be fun for all who entered, and for those who haven’t entered. Prizes have not been yet determined. Voting will end January 31, 2010, and the winner will be announced February 1, 2010.
Happy Fish Keeping!
