Posted by drjungle - 11-18-09 15:21 - 0 comments

Blunthead Cichlid, ropheus Moorii "Ilangi"Blunthead Cichlid – Tropheus Moorii "Ilangi"
"They don’t call me Blunt head for nothing… So, let me be blunt!
I rule! Why? Because I am the very first Tropheus discovered, and THAT was over 100 years ago!"

With more than 40 different color morphs,

the Blunthead Cichlid may actually have a variety for every color of the rainbow!

The Blunthead Cichlid Tropheus Moorii was described over a hundred years ago (1898), and was the first of their genus be recognized. This is actually a small genus of fish in Lake Tanganyika, Africa, but with over 120 known color varieties. They are very specialized feeders which restricts their habitat to rocky areas with good algae growth. But they can be found spread throughout this enormous lake at almost every single reef, and each area has a unique color variety… (More)

> Catalina Macaw – Polo!

Catalina Macaw , Polo

Polo
"A most colorful bird… but thats not all!"
2009-11-03

Here’s what Valerie Cook says about Polo:

"I just got polo about 6 months ago. I thought it wouldnt take him time to get used to me. now he is just the love of our lives, he brings us so much joy. The funniest thing he has done to me so far is: i was sitting on the couch one day reading a book and polo was sitting on his couch and i could hear him moving around. well, then i felt these long toe nails on my foot, I thought it was my dog and when I looked down polo was on my foot looking up at me and he said come here! When he came to live with us he had a small vocabulary and I would say in 6 months he has learned about 20 new words. He also loves to antagonize my dogs, he will get down on the floor and chase them around the house.
I have a mini dashound and a 6 lb. min pin."

> Cherry-headed Conure, Red-headed Conure
Posted by Animal-World Contributors - 11-12-09 06:36 - 0 comments
Our cherry headed conure (Fred) is 24 years old and is much a part of the family. His beak started going crooked last year and the vet needs to file it every month or 2. The last 3 times, he went into seizures after having this done to him. The vet thinks it's either due to the stress of the situation or maybe he has a heart problem. I hold my breath each time and hope he comes out of it. Has anyone else had the same problem?

> Red Canary
Posted by Animal-World Contributors - 11-12-09 06:36 - 0 comments
I have a Red Factor Canary and I thought he didn't really need toys, as is stated on a previous posting. However, I felt sorry for him and bought him some toys, bell, mirrors, dangly toys and of course a swing. He loves his toys! And he is always on his swing looking in the big mirror on the wall where his cage is, and he sings all of the time because he thinks he is singing to the bird in the mirror. So, it has been my experiences that canaries do like to play with toys and they also like mirrors and sing to their own reflection. His name is Mango and he is one very happy little boy!

> Red-lipped Blenny
Posted by Animal-World Contributors - 11-12-09 06:36 - 0 comments
I have this fish (the one in the excellent pictures from John Rice)and have been searching all day to try to identify it. (It was sold to me incorrectly as a "red finned blenny.") But this fish is NOT a redlipped or "horseface" blenny. I still don't know what it is for sure, but the face shape is quite different from the Ophioblennius atlanticus and the "night time" markings of this fish are much more elaborite than that of a horseface. (Also, it's dorsal fin is higher than a red lipped blenny and it lacks the red lips which are it's namesake feature) IF anyone knows for sure what the fish in this picture really is, I would love to know :) THANK YOU!

> Bluestreak Cleaner Wrasse
Posted by Animal-World Contributors - 11-12-09 06:36 - 0 comments
Cleaner wrasses survive quite well in captivity. I had 1 for 8 months till the wolf blenny (aka: green eel) ate him, just like he ate every other small fish in the tank. My new wrasse eats flake and grannules.

> Jandaya Conure, Yellow-headed Conure
Posted by Animal-World Contributors - 11-12-09 06:36 - 0 comments
My jenday is named Jendy, I found him at the local pet store. When I asked for a good bird they kinda laughed, so I asked for the meanest 1 and found jendy. I gave it to my girlfriend "who is a vet tech" as a b-day present. The vet there said no one could hold him but from the first day I brought him home He loves my girlfriend, he likes to play in her hair, lol. We take him outside, he flies around a little then returns home. We leave the front door open until he returns, and yeah, the first time was an accident. He really likes to laugh with us and sounds just like me, lol. And he attacks over weight people for some reason. My neighbor is deathly scared of him, lol. happy timez
