Climate Most reptiles require warm temperatures (such as 85-100 degrees), controlled humidity and special lighting. This will require you to either buy or build a terrarium, equip it with lights, heaters and monitor it daily. Reptiles have no biological temperature control and cannot tell you when they're hot or cold. Additional Pet Reptile Information If you do decide to have a reptile pet, do not let it around young children or anyone with a weakened immune system. Reptiles release a chemical that makes infants and young children stop breathing. Also remember to always wash your hands after handling a reptile. If you don't wash your hands, they can give you salmonella. Reptile information is becoming more available as reptiles grow in popularity as pets. The more information you have in advance of pet ownership, the better equipped you will be to ensure your reptile loves a long and happy life.
