Green Star Polyps
Soft Corals Index

Description:
This is an encrusting type coral that has bright green polyps or occasionally light brown or gray. It has a large bright center to each polyp and when the polyps are retracted there are dark purple, tubular calcyes left projecting above the mat. A similar species, Briareum sp. will leave only calcyes only slightly projecting.

Lighting - Water flow:
Strong, indirect lighting and strong current is preferred. Occassinal blowing off of any accumulated detritus may be needed.

Difficulty of Care:
This is an easy coral to care for. It will grow quickly and cover the substrate upon which it lives, covering everything in its' path. Filamentious algae can smother it, make sure there is no hair algae in the aquarium before you put in the green star polyps.

Aggressiveness:
This coral can overgrow stony corals, so avoid placing in areas where it can encrust them.

I got a tiny little piece from a freind, I mean small maybe two polyps on it. Now it is overgrowing the rocks in a couple of spots, grows really fast. It's gnarley looking too!

I bought a small piece of green star with about 10 polyps on it. I bought it about a month and a half ago and now I have almost doubled the amount of polyps and it's already starting to encrust the rock I put it on. Gave me confidence as this is my 1st addition for my reef tank.
