Here's what Kathy says about Sidney:
"Attached I have included a few pictures of my Sidney, our African
Grey who we had for 7 years. She died 2 weeks ago when she was startled
by a neighbor starting up a chainsaw. Even though I had a hold of her, she
and I were both startled and she flew away. I ran after her but didn't find
her until someone called me in answer to my newspaper ad 4 days later. I
rubbed her and talked to her and give her kisses and she gave me one back.
She couldn't hardly perch. I called the vet on call (was after hours) and
was given advice. She drank some water and finally had a seizure. I called
the vet and said I was on my way with her, which is a 40 min. drive. (no
avian vets skilled in emergency treatment. Told me to go elsewhere) I wrapped
her partially in a towel and she kept having seizures. She died on me about
half way up there. I had her in my lap and just cried all the way and back.
It has been almost 2 weeks and I am still crying. I guess it gets easier.
She had a hugh vocabulary and several tricks. She was
close to both me and my husband. I had cried so much and feel the only
way to ease the pain is adopt another one. I found Sidney when she was
6 weeks old and handfed her until she ate regular food. We had her on
a diet of African Gray Special, which she liked, and she snacked on a
seed mixture, and fruits and veggies. She would usually get a few bites
of whatever we were eating that was safe. She was such a companion for
us. I miss her with my heart and soul.
These pictures were taken by me and they are among my
favorites. I just love her expressions. She was my baby."
Sidney is most photogenic!
We are saddened hearing of the loss of
Sidney. Our hearts go out to you in your loss of a most wonderful companion.
What is shared between us and our pets cannot be put into words and the
loss is deeply felt. Sidney will remain forever in our hearts. Thank you
for sharing her with us.
