My son gave me a cockatiel then a week later gave me a parakeet so the cockatiel would have a friend. They get along fine. Would they do okay in the finch aviary ?

I personally never mixed parrots (Psittaciformes) with finches (Passeriformes) as the hookbilled parrots can do a lot of damage to these smaller birds. If the aviary is very, very large, you may be successful, you would have to try it to see. But I would still be cautious as the situation could become unstable at any time, especially when any of the birds go into breeding mode.

I have what I believe to be a black spotted spiny eel. I've had him for 5 years. He's about 2 feet long. He lives in a 120 gallon tank. I have a Fluval FX-6 canister filter. I use 6 bags of carbon and the rest is mechanical filtration and a 100 gallon Aqueon filter that sits on top of the tank with 2 carbon inserts. The tank also has 2 power heads hooked up to a under gravel system and a large air stone and a wave maker that shoots water right down where he hangs out so I believe the water has more then enough oxygen for him. His tank mates are 2 full grown tin foil barbs, one green terror and 4 plecostomus. He's eaten 2 tiny red worms in the last 6 weeks. He refuses to eat and has heavy breathing all the time (panting). I've tried cooler water, warmer water, aquarium salt and API general cure with no good results. I don't know what else to try. Now that I think about it in the years past he has had times of heavy breathing but not continuously. I never figured it to be a bad thing because he was always eating. But now he doesn't eat and the breathing is very heavy. On the outside he has no scratches or scrapes or puncture wounds and there's no signs of ick or any type of white fungus anywhere. His outer body looks normal. I checked the water with a test kit and everything seemed to be fine. I also took a sample to my local pet store and had the water checked and that test also came back normal. No problem with the water. If there's anything you can suggest it would be greatly appreciated. He's a beautiful eel and I don't want to lose him. I sent some pictures and a small video with this email. pH - 7.6 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate - 80 - To me it looked close between 40 and 80 but the girl at the pet store said 80 so that's what I'm going with.  Ammonia - 0 The tank has been set up for 5 years.  Size 120 gallons. Last water change 1 week ago. Water source tap water. I do use water conditioner when doing water changes. Regular water changes every 4 weeks. Water and filter change every 6 weeks. Water parameters were checked today August 24th. I used a liquid test kit. Temperature 82. Tank mates 2 adult tin foil barbs, 4 adult plecostomus and 1 adult green terror female small. Like I said in my original email the eel has always had periods of heavy breathing but not continuously like this and has never refused food. That's all I got for you.  Please help.

I have a total of 4 finch but 2 of them are loosing there feathers? do you know why

Your cage may be too small. The two loosing their feathers are most likely being 'plucked' by the other two. Putting them in a separate cage where they aren't picked at will allow the feathers to grow back.

They might be molting like my Budgerigar Parakeets.

I am alone now, and I asked management if I could have one and she said yes. like I said, I am on social security, so I have very little money, but a whole lot of love to give him. I live in knoxville,tn, and I do not drive..so he will have constant care. thanks for your consideration. miss Linda

Although your post was long, long ago...I am desperately trying to find a suitable home for my 7", brackish raised, silver tipped shark (cat). If you still have room for a growing catfish (and reside in Southern California), please let me know. Thank you.

I don't know how long they should live but I have 2, did have 3 but one jumped out when I wasn't looking about 10 years ago, each about 12 in long. Next month I will have had them for 20 years- is that usual? One named "Lazarus" has survived multiple near death experiences and just keeps on going!

i have two featherfins in a 10 gallon tank with a bunch of other community fish. One is about 4 inches now and is highly territorial to the other feather. They tend to be a little nocturnal; they completely hide themselves when i turn the tank light on. I find that they change colors when i put them in different tanks. Right now its pitch-black on the black gravel but when i put it in my other tank, with white gravel, it becomes a lot lighter and his spots are visible. Right now all they will eat are sinking wafers and bloodworms. They are great fish and have beautiful fins.

Sounds like you need a larger tank. My featherfin squeaker is easily close to 12 inches long. He or she is quite territorial but he has his own log hide that helps. Igot him at this size when we eye buying a used tank. We got there only to find out that the tank also had the catfish, a bristlenose, rainbow shark any one neon tetra. So we adopted them because we didn't have much choice.
