I have a 55 gallon aquarium and I am trying to choose what kind of lizard to put in it. I do not want anything that requires a water only aquarium mainly because they are a real pain to clean and maintain. Some speices I had in mind were large geckos, bearded dragons, or maybe a small speices of monitor lizard. Does anybody have any good ideas that are less than 60 dollars?

By the no water I meant like no full water or half water setups but I am fine with a big water dish.

You can usually get a young Savanha for around that depending on area. Check classified listings too. Many people re-home reptiles.

Hi, i really want one of these as a pet but not only do I want to take care of it, I want it to be happy and healthy with some friends(and maybe a husband or wife). The problem is, 1, I don't know the right tank size for a couple of them, 2, I would like to take them for a walk with one of those reptile leashes so he/she can be fit, 3, Are there other reptiles it could live with so the tank can have a variety of anikals and patterns will allowing them to get along, 4, I would like to breed them but don't want to have the problem I have my guppies which is constant breedings with many offspring, 5, can I keep them with plants and maybe in a semi-tropical enviorment(all the heat and humidity of a desert but the layout of a forest)?

That's quite unfortunate. What was her reasoning?

Just maybe the gecko plus all the other things like a tank, food, decorations can cost quite a bit. Is it possible for you to save up enough money that you could purchase the gecko plus tank etc. That would show your mom how responsible you can be and would be with a gecko and she just might have a change of mind. It is worth asking.

The gecko is probably is sheding cause my is white to my gecko already shed once but not too long ago, So mine is sheding two times already but isn't that normal. So make sure your gecko got a hiding place for it to shed so it will be alot easier for the gecko. I got my gecko since last couple weeks ago an it started to shed once for about 2 weeks when got it but now I think it going to be shedded again soon. Like leopard geckos are uasally for beginners so you can get use to them. And don't put a male and a male together cause they will sometimes fight each other til they killed one or the other but for right now I only got one gecko so I can get use to this one before I get a another. But some people told leopard geckos are reallly hard to take care of them, Yeah you also need a 10 gallon tank to put the leopard gecko in so it will have enough room to chase the crickets around or the mealworms. I never gotten mealworms before cause I hate picking up the mealworm but I really like picking up the crickets. GOOD LUCK

I have a leopard gecko since 1 month and It's eating well, I give him crickets and worms with vitamins, but this last days I see him turning kind of white, It's not color brightening anymore, kind of mate and I'm very concerned because I don't know much about disorders of these reptiles, can anyone help me find out what is going on please?

This is normal, it's just the way geckos look before they shed their skin which they do regularly as they grow, his colour should be back to normal after he has shed. Just make sure you provide him with a humid hide to make shedding easier.

Most likely he is ready to shed and when the old skin is gone he will be very bright again. I have two blizzard geckos and they are the sweetest little guys ever. They get really pale when they shed but not for long.Good luck

Hi, I just recently bought two leopard geckos, I have everything set-up I was wondering can they be housed with other animals or should they be separated and just get a few more females?

You should separate male geckos from each other, otherwise they will fight to their deaths. You can share as many female geckos to one male as long as the space is big enough.

Don't take him out in the cold (they don't like it) and let him hang out on your t-shirt (while your wearing it). They are cool just haning out while you walk around or do whatever. He likes his human. Get a spotted shirt.... teasing.

Is there any health benifits that can get from gecko lizard. Here in Philippines there are reports that there are parts of that reptile can cure aids and cancer,
is it true?

I don't know about ANY health benefits but there doesn't seem to be any research or scientific articles or publications to back up that there is any health benefits for a gekko with regard to cancer or aids.
  • Efren Ignacio - 2011-07-03
It's only talk of the town that some breed of reptiles are being used to cure aids and cancer. We have to know it. Lot of buyers were in town looking for Tuku.

Is there any vitamin or any medicine that can make my gecko grow faster?

You just feed them well and they will grow at their own pace just like us humans. Any supplement that promises to make them grow faster could be extremely detrimental to your little guy. Be patient feed him and he will just grow.
