Could someone please tell me if TBs(thoroughbreds) or WBs (warmbloods) are better show jumpers, and who are better all-rounders? Thank-you, Olivia

I think WBs are slightly better jumpers but they both make good all rounders. This is just from my own experiences though...

If I understand the info correctly the throughbreds are bred from defined warmbloods for specific sport whether racing or jumping so I would go on the basis of what the actual pony is bred for. Thoughbreds are normally bred for a sport. All rounders in handling riding personality is dependent on ancestry and breeding. Easier to judge by the parental linage. Hope this helps.

    WBs=jumpers TBs=all-rounders

I am not sure on on who might be the better jumper but I now my throughbred trusts me and he would jump any thing I would ask him to and he would cross any river. I would hope I would know his limits.

The PROs and CONs of owning a horse:
PROs: 1. Horses can live till they are over 25 years old, this makes them a wonderful friend!
2. Despite there size, horses with the right loving care and training, are very affectionate, sweet temped and loving.
3. YOU can learn so much from a horse!

CONs: 1. Owning and caring for a horse takes a LOT of time and commitment.
2. Horses hooves must be shod/trimmed every 6-8 weeks by a farrier, this costs a 'bit'!
3. All horses/ponies should be fed at-least a little bit of 'hard-feed' every day even if they are being spelled or are a companion horse OR if they do or don't graze each day=MONEY!
4. Buying Tack, Brushes, Rugs etc. costs. Also beware POISONOUS-PLANTS.
5. HORSES NEED A YARD!

When I was young, I wanted a horse in the worts way and my dad kept saying no as there was no place to put him. I thought if I cleaned out the garage really good, then I could put it in the garage. Dad still said "NO" Anyhow got a little older and rode all the time - someone elses horses but I didn't have to clean the garage again either.

We have an opportunity to adopt a 2yr old gelded stallion tb. He's beautiful and seems sweet. Will he be a good pet? We're not planning to ride very often. Is there a tremendous amount of medical and grooming care required?

Aww good I'm getting a thoroughbred in a couple months any down sides?

Do the 'Thoroughbreds" have to be race horses? I would prefer to just go rising on trails, that sort of thing. And is it possible to get the Appaloosa color in a Thoroughbred? I heard that they do come in that color. But I am not sure? Thanks.

Thoroughbreds don't have to race to be happy and love you. I would imagine most don't just beautiful to appreciate and ride.
  • macey - 2011-09-05
I wish I had a horse you are so lucky.
