Hi. I have a pearl cockatiel. I'd never had a pet bird before. I need to know when will he start to whistle like other. All he cried ack ack ack. That's it. Any suggestions/comments?

There isn't any guarantee that your cockatiel will whistle. It would be very doubtful that he will just do the ack ack ack though. They usually have a variety of calls, whitles, little noises that they make. Talk to him, whistle, let him listen to music, and be patient. Is he still quite young? Chances are great he will start to make other little noises as soon as he is old enough and all settled in and he knows you are his friend.

i'm curious, because i have an adult male pearly.. well atleast i thought he was a male, but i've discovered that apparently males lose their pearls after their first moult.. but my other pied cockatiel is a female and she lays eggs and they both sit on them and behave like a pair but can never hatch them out.. I'm so confused... is it possible that the two of them are both females and just share the motherly instinct and work together on the unfertalised eggs, or is it possible that my pearly is a male?

Hi cockatiels are monogamous and they share the roles so both the male and female wil take it in tuns to sit on the eggs.

I'm not very sure yet on male or female tiels but petsmart sell a yellow vitamin bottle around 10 and it helped me identify which one was the female.

I have a 3yr old F. Pearl named Jada, she has currently laid some eggs too. I think its just some kinda stage she went thru because she never had a mate. I figured it was just something like a chicken does. :) but shes ok and she still does her 'I wanna mate' thing where her tail goes up in the air and she makes this weird chirpy noise.

I'm not sure how old my cockatiel is. . She's molting right now, I'm not sure if it is her first molt or not, so I'm not sure, but I think she's a girl. She has pearl markings, but no barring on the tail. Her tail does have dots and the tips of her tail feathers are black, though, and her cheek patches are a duller orange. She also doesn't make a lot of noise ( a whistle now and then). What do you think? boy or girl?

I have four cockatiels, each a different variety. A pearl: Luner, grey: Rosco, pied: Rocky, and fallow: Winter,(white, but not albino). I LOVE my cockatiels! They are so affectionate, they sing and whistle, and Rosco knows tricks. I know that I will always have at least one cockatiel of my own. The first three are mine, they're the males, the female is my sister's. I love taking the boys in the shower with me, they love playing in the spray! I highly recommend a cockatiel as a pet for almost anyone.

hi my name is karina and my cockatiels name is cinnamon. he is just the sweet little angel everybody wants. when we first got cinnamon we thought he was a girl. when we looked at this wesite under pearl cockatiels, i read that in a few years if they loose their yellow colors and are all grey it is a boy. so we waited and he lost his color. Thanks to your advise we found out that our she is a he.

I have a pearl cockatiel named Pasha. Even though he loves to perch on my shoulder I'd rather teach him more stuff

I have a beautiful female Pearl named Belle, and a Handsome Pied named Al. They've been together for close to ten years and have just now started laying eggs. LoL I'm hoping to have some pearly-pied babies one of these days, but I'll tell you, I couldn't be happier with my two wonderful friends.
