N Nevada Fishgirl - 2012-05-20 Bosemani rainbow question: I'm an experienced keeper, considering making some tank changes. Need to know what is reasonable for adult Bows concerning tank size. They're 4 to 6 years old.

Jeremy Roche - 2012-05-20 How many are you planning on keeping. They need a bit of space. 30 gallon will be good for 3 or 4. They need the length to swim.
Ryan - 2011-11-24 My turqoise rainbow female just gave birth to a fry, not an egg. WTF?

Charlie Roche - 2011-11-25 Probably what happened is she laid eggs in the tank somewhere and just too small to notice. They were fertilized and it only takes a week for them to hatch out. So you probably didn't see the eggs and then all of a sudden there is a fry. That is my guess - otherwise, I sure hope you got it on film.
Kieth - 2010-06-09 I just recently bought some and they seem to like to jump out of tank, any ideas why?

Susan - 2011-08-11 Rainbows eat insects in their natural environment and swim close to the surface. They jump if they are startled or if they are hoping to catch an airborne insect.
Dean - 2011-10-04 Because the are jumpers like many fish da ! Mine get really rambunctious at feeding so I dont walk away from my tank with the lid up .
Steve Mahalko - 2011-07-02 Just set up a 65 gal with 12 Angels, 6 cory cats, 1 bristlenose pleco, 1 male betta.....would 2 rainbows round off the tank or would they be too active for the angels? Thanks for the help.

Charlie Roche - 2011-07-04 Rule of thumb is 1 gallon for each inch your fish will be as an adult. You have to subtract gallons for the gravel, decorations and bedding. The angels can get up to 6 inches - that is a minimum 75 gallon tank needed just for them. The tank is too small for the fish you have already. I would also read up on some information regarding how well all these guys get along full grown. Sorry about that. Maybe a good excuse to get another tank though so more fun.
KaCee - 2010-08-13 I bought 7 "Australian" Rainbows, but as they are getting their colors, some have red tail and fins and some have red. Any ideas what these rainbows might really be? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Anonymous - 2011-06-01 I dont know for sure but perhaps the ones with the red tails are male, because males tend to be more colorful.
Sujanie - 2009-11-09 Thank you for that information. I wish I had read it earlier - three of my rainbows jumped out of the tank and I was wondering why :-(! Thank you so much. Sujanie:)
jess - 2008-12-19 My dad said he'd buy me a few fish, but the catch is, they have to be long lasting and I must be able to look after them right. So I thought I could try having some rainbow fish, all I want to know is, are they hard to look after and how much & where can I get them?
A school of the peaceful (but very energetic!) Australian Rainbowfish will make a dazzling display in a larger show tank!

There were giant rainbowfish in this wonderful book Tophero son Of Smilodon.
Thanks for the info! I know now that rainbows like to jump out of tanks, so now I make sure that my aquarium tank is closed now!
