Eduardo - 2012-05-11 Hello, I just bought a pair of flowerhorn cichlids, they said at the store that they were a couple. One is about half an inch larger than the other and I can see some the smaller one being pursued on and off, should I be worried? The large one is about 3 in. the smaller one about 2 1/2in. They are in a 40 gallon aquarium with plenty of large rocks in the bottom that provide caves.

Jeremy Roche - 2012-05-13 No that sounds perfectly normal as long as they aren't doing damage to each other. May be trying to mate or just set dominance in new tank.
Eduardo - 2012-05-13 Thanks, at day 3 I am beggining to observe the agressivness increase towards the female (or smaller one) to where now she isolates in an upper corner of the tank and stays there unless the Male (larger one) either pushes her out or she just moves to feed. I dont see damage on her ... yet. Should I begin to consider separating them (moving the Female) to another tank or should I try adding another cichlid of fairly similar size to both to maybe deter the attention of the Male to a potential new target but that can defend itself? Thinking of a Jack Dempsey as an option ... help!
Jeremy Roche - 2012-05-13 Maybe do a little tank re-arrange to get the males mind off the female. Sometimes that will help. Is he hungry?
Eduardo - 2012-05-13 No, he is well fed, both are feeding ok, it's just that the Male now is taking control of the tank it seems and the female keeps to a corner of the tank most of the time. I have notice there are no significant damage done to her but monitoring her condition often. I would hate to have them separated. Still considering the option to add another fish as a deterent ..
Jeremy Roche - 2012-05-14 Sounds like that may be your only option is to add another fish, maybe another female.
Eduardo - 2012-05-14 What foods are recommended for 3 inch flowerhorns? I want to make sure they feed well but without stressing much the water quality, currently feeding Tetra Granules and Frozen Bloodworms, suggestions?
Eduardo - 2012-05-16 I am starting to notice at day 8 that the Bigger flowerhorn (3 1/2 in) is digging a hole behing a big slate rock. Is this a sign that they will be breeding soon? He continues to be aggressive against the female but apparently building a nest at the same time, wonder how he'll get her to enter the "nest" ...
Jefferson Alicarte Segador - 2012-05-06 hi ! .I already have 2 Flowerhorns both pairing now and sooner having a babies! The female actually lay eggs last night! I have a problem here , I,m afraid some of the eggs will have fungus ! .I'm asking some opinion on how to treat the eggs early to prevent fungus? I read some articles that adding a methylene blue will prevent the fungus getting on the eggs . Will the methylene blue is safe for the eggs or the newborn FH fry .?
shiv - 2012-04-27 I have a flowerhorn which is 11 months old but due to less space capacity in my living room I have kept it facing south. Will there be any feng shui problems????

cris - 2012-04-03 That's correct! Flowerhorns really are voracious eaters. They could consume a lot of feeds too, so it is important that you only buy those that are really exceptional in quality.
You may also want to try breeding once Bobo reaches the right size. Just research some flowerhorn breeding tips to avoid fish injury.
hanumanth - 2011-12-30 I have bought one baby flowerhorn, it is looking very fear. It is not taking any food.. and it is taking a minimum of 5-6 small stones into its mouth and releasing them back.. do I have any problem...

Charlie Roche - 2011-12-30 The picking up and then moving the gravel is normal. They just do it and sometimes create all sorts of hidey holes or gullies by moving the stones. Looking fearful??? If you just got her then possibly why as it takes a few days to accimate to new surroundings. Are you feeding your little fella the same thing he was used to eating in the store? Might want to try that or a different food but possibly just all getting adjusted. Check your tank conditions though.
abhishek sahane - 2012-02-11 If he is picking stones which have food color,he is thinking it as food and give him food by smashing (pressing by finger when it is in water)it will not float in water after some days he will eat DON'T WORRY
karthi - 2012-02-04 I want to develop a bright coloration in my baby flower horn.....what type of foods i want to feed? Thanks

Collecting Clownfish - 2012-02-07 Congrats on your new addition! They are very pretty fish! There are several commercial fish foods that are reported to bring out reds, which will help with coloration. Hilkari makes a few foods like that. Remember, your little one will get pretty large and will be very territorial, but I am sure you are already reading up on that stuff. :)
They will not get the full bright coloring until they are of breeding age, so be patient and you will see your Flowerhorn, uh, er.... FLOWER into a beautiful adult!
Ashwin Kumaar - 2012-01-17 What can I feed for my flowerfish babies which are only 45 days old? I want to get a very bright colors from them, suggest a good food which can bring out very good colors in them?

Clarice Brough - 2012-01-20 The colors of the Flowerhorn are primarily determined by their genetic make up, although water conditions and feeding may have some impact. At 45 days of age, your younsters should be ready to accept crushed flake food. You can get color enhancing fish foods at your pet store as well.
Raffy Ballais - 2011-11-17 Is it really a necessary for a Flowerhorn to be in a large tank? I am planning to buy 1 but a have a parrot fish in my tank, well I decided to put a divider on the tank but I have a doubt that both of my fish will survive in that condition (if it will happen.) My tank is only 2 gallon

Charlie Roche - 2011-11-18 You would need at least a 55 gallon just for the cichlid - read the above article on the fish. They are also extremely agressive and carnivores - so a 2 gallon plus another fish is just a disaster waiting to happen. Sorry - but you can look forward to a larger tank - but make it real soon.
bill - 2011-12-20 Either of those fish would take effort to even squeeze into that tank when full grown even without water!
A gorgeous hybrid, the Flowerhorn Cichlid makes a striking show fish in a large aquarium!

It will be fine.
My female flower horn bred with my texas and now I have babies, very very aggressive what should I do?
Sell them at low price to aquarium shops. This is best way to save their lives
The babies are very aggressive? Are they getting enough food?
I'm pretty sure a shop won't buy them because of the fact that they are cross bred, and most people hate cross breeds.

I bought a baby flower horn today.....it does not eat and hiding in the same place.....
did it have any problems?
Can't know if it had any problems but it can take a day or two to acclimate to a new enviornment. Probably just adjusting.
