Editorial review: BUnderstanding, Preventing, and Solving Aggression and Biting Behaviors in Companion Parrots/B PIt is unlikely that anyone who first brings a companion parrot into his or her life has the idea that it will be a temporary situation. Unfortunately many parrots do not stay in their homes because their caregivers don't have the information they need to provide the behavioral guidance that keeps them tame. With over thirty years of bird experience and her theory of Nurturing Guidance, Sally Blanchard's practical advice shows you why biting and aggression are actually the easiest behavioral problems to understand, prevent, and solve. Sally Blanchard's long awaited Beak Book will play an instrumental role in keeping reader's parrots in their homes.

5 stars. Great Book..CPQ is a Scam! Blanchard is a Con Artist!
I have a Copy of "The Beak Book" and "The Companion Parrot Guide". These are perhaps the best books on Parrot Care and Behavior ever published. The Beak Book was published by CPQ. You may say to yourself: "How can I get more information about Parrots? What Books or Magazines can I buy from CPQ." Stick with these 2 Books and only buy them from Amazon. I would never ever order anything else from CPQ. There is a good chance that you will not get it.

br /I got screwed on a pricey subscription for Companion Parrot Quarterly...so did hundreds of other naive Subscribers.
br /Sally Blanchard may be knowledgable about Birds... but she is not respected by her ripped off Subscribers. READ ON!

br /Taken from Perch Net:
br /The Companion Parrot Quarterly (originally called the Pet Bird Report) is/was a magazine published by Sally Blanchard. Publication became erratic in 2006 and stopped completely in 2007. However Sally continued to advertise and sell subscriptions with no indication that anything was wrong. I don't know exactly when she stopped doing this but I believe it was quite recent. I saw this misleading advertising with my own eyes in January 2009, when I searched her website for information on the magazine's status and couldn't find it. I saw it on other occasions but don't know the dates. Numerous people (including me) complain that during this period she ignored emails from subscribers asking about the status of their subscription.

br /I think that Sally's work is superb. I respected her BUT about 2 years ago I re-subscribed to her excellent magazine, Companion Parrot. For months I never received a single copy. Than I wrote her confirming that she received my money and that I had not accidentially been taken off of her subscribers' list. I wrote her a long line of emails--never one reply and no magazine. Finally one afternoon I got thru by phone and talked to her personally and she confirmed that she received my money and that I was on her subscribers' list and that she had received my emails. She promised me that the next issue of the magazine would hit the presses soon. Well you guessed it, no magazine. I began writing her emails asking for a refund. I had given up. I explained that I WAS ON DISABILITY AND THAT MY INCOME IS VERY LIMITED. Didn't make any difference--I never heard from her. I am so frustrated by the way that she has treated me as if my loyalty as a subscriber means nothing to her. She just basically took my money and ignored me. I am just so angry by her treatment--and I think that many of you would feel the same way.

5 stars. Wealth of information and great illustrations
This is a great book that explores what part that we, as owners, play in the behavior of our parrot. I loved the illustrations, too. The parrot "expressions" were so accurate that they made me smile.

4 stars. Great Information, Poor Design
This book has some excellent information and suggestions. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to better understand why parrots bite and how to prevent, reduce, and respond to biting. The down side is poor organization, too much repetition and bad visual design. It reads like random articles rather than a well-planned book, and some of the text is on colored patterned background making it almost unreadable. But even with that, the information is WELL worth the purchase price!

5 stars. every parrot owner should have this book
Occasionally my parrot was biting me so I called a rescue organization who recommended this book to me. It is FANTASTIC! I haven't been bitten by my bird since. I learned to respect when my bird was uncomfortable with something and that handling a bird when they're extremely excited can be asking for trouble. I can't say enough good things about this book. BUY IT!

5 stars. Do yourself and your parrot a favor - get this book!
If you have a parrot you must get this book. It should be standard issue with every pet parrot. Just skimming through the book is a revelation. I'm not finished reading it yet, and it's already made a difference in my relationship with my parrot.
