Editorial review: The Companion Parrot Handbook is a remarkably complete, up-to-date guide for the parrot owner, including information on everything from the fundamentals of successful parrot keeping to valuable advice on preventing and solving behavioral problems. A sampling of topics covered include choosing a parrot, skills to teach a parrot, converting parrots to a healthier diet, what to do if a parrot flies away, and how to travel with a parrot. Ms. Blanchard provides excellent guidance, gained from over 20 years as an avian behavior consultant, regarding basic behavioral concepts and the methods that can be used to live long and happily with a companion parrot. Specifically, her information and techniques serve to build trust between parrots and their owners. Illustrations, done by both Sally Blanchard and Jeff Riebe, serve to help create an exceptionally humorous and insightful publication. This book is written so that it can be read in one of two ways. It can be read from start to finish or used as a reference to look up specific topics, such as "First Aid for Broken Blood Feathers", "Towel Training", or "Excessive Screaming". It is a "must have" for anyone who has a parrot in the home or who may be thinking of adopting a first parrot.

5 stars. Sally Blanchard is a THIEF and CON ARTIST!
This is a Great Book. The finest ever published on Parrot Behavior.
br /However, the Author and her company CPQ are Con Artists and Thieves.
br /
br /They sold hundreds of subscriptions to their expensive magazine "Companion Parrot Quarterly."
br /Most of the subcribers, including myself, recieved one or NO issues. In two years, not one issue was ever published and recieved. CPQ never answered any inquiries and the subscribers never got a single penny back.
br /AND Blanchard kept selling subscriptions and pocketing money!
br /
br /This is a scandal and I understand that complaints have been filed with the Colorado Attorney General.
br /If you don't believe me, check the internet. Anyway, only buy this Book from Amazon. NEVER Send any money to Blanchard or CPQ...you will recieve nothing.

4 stars. Parrot book review
Excellent book, and great service from the seller. The wear description was accurate and so I got what I expected. The only reason I didn't rate this with 5 stars is because the book is used.

br /Sally is the ONE to go to on anything you need
br /to know about a parrot. She is famous in the
br /Parrot world. For many years she published
br /a newsletter and answered readers questions
br /in Bird Talk. She flies all over the country to
br /speak at conventions.
br /
br /She knows EVERYTHING. This is an excellent
br /book..It is from A-Z.
br /
br /Please read it if you have a or are thinking about
br /getting one. It has been on my bookshelf for many
br / many years.
br /
br /It costs to much $$. If I did not already own it I
br /would not be able to afford it. So I suggest that
br /you try and find it at the library.

5 stars. Best book ever!
This is probably the best book I have ever read based on living with a companion parrot! It covers every topic I can think of and is very easy to read. Too many people buy birds without knowing what they are getting themselves into which leads to a neglected and miserable bird. This book teaches you everything you need to know to have a happy, lifelong companion parrot. It should be illegal for anyone to buy a parrot without reading this book!

1 stars. Supports breeding mills
I think Sally knows a lot about parrots as pets, but she supports a bird store with one of the biggest bird breeding mills around - Bird Paradise. [...] Sally speaks every year at the Bird Paradise "parrot palooza." Why is she supporting a store like this one?
