Editorial review: Goldfish come in a range of sizes and looks that is truly amazing. iFancy Goldfish /iis the most encompassing and thorough treatment of the fancy goldfish hobby to date. With photographs, essays, and instructions from a variety of experts, this book will provide readers with all they need to embark on the fascinating hobby of raising fancy goldfish. Fish veterinarian Dr. Johnson writes extensively on goldfish health and disease, including microscopy techniques, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of the full span of goldfish diseases. In a helpful and accessible "frequently asked questions" format, Richard Hess provides a general introduction to all aspects of the hobby, from selecting the best fish, aquarium setup, maintenance, feeding, sexing and breeding, and keeping fish healthy. Jackie and Louis Chan, major exporters of fancy goldfish from China, discuss the tradition of goldfish appreciation in China, and a chapter on Japanese goldfish describes the history and standards of uniquely Japanese varieties and the techniques and secrets of Japanese breeders. Izhak Kroshinsky, a leading breeder of Ranchu in America, describes his methods for cultivating a superior strain over the last twenty-five years. With over 100 color photographs of beautiful specimens and rare varieties by Fred Rosenzweig, this book is a stunning visual reference as well.

5 stars. excellent book for those who are into keeping fancy goldfish aquarium
I have many books on freshwater fish and some in goldfish. This book is one of the best for fancy goldfish. May be it is my science oriented background that lead me to enjoy the first section of the book which deals with illness and is very deep into even surgery. May be a list price of 39 dollar is a little too high for some but the content of the book is definitely great for those who are interested in keeping fancy goldfish in an aquarium.

5 stars. For the Goldfish fanatic
Fancy Goldfish is an in depth look at raising and caring for gold fish.
br /
br /Many pages are spent on the fancy goldfish which may or may not interest you. I found it interesting in a weird sort of way. The photos are really fun and the lengths that some folks will go to is amazing.
br /
br /What was helpful to me was the caring part, both in terms of setting up a healthy environment and identifying and caring for diseases. Caring for goldfish isn't as simple as a fish and a bowl. They really do require much more attention than most folks realize.
br /
br /I wouldn't recommend this for the casual fish caretaker. But, for the interested it is a fascinating book, one which will be a reference for me for a long time.

2 stars. Good for Veterinarian
This book contains very detail information. Half of the book describes about fish diseases and surgery methods, which are not what I am looking for. The author did a good job on pictures, a lot of good gold fish pictures.
br /
br /This book talks too much on other topics that beginner people wont care much. For example, fengshui, fish surgery methods, etc. They less focus on the common knowledge that people want to know.
br /
br /It's good for a collection.

5 stars. Best book you cant get about goldfish
Comprehensive information, stunning photos, and very interesting and helpful, although a bit too focused on diseases.
br /I recommend it to any goldfish fan, rookie or expert, specially for ranchu fans, because it has an extensive section about them (not very interesting for me, though).
br /Nicely done.

4 stars. from a not so experienced goldfish lover
An experienced goldfish breeder in my aquarium society recommended this as the best goldfish book. I had five others and would agree with him, however, it is not for the inexperienced goldfish keeper, in my opinion.
br /The authors chose to put all the things that could go wrong at the front of the book, enough to scare anyone away. They discuss diseases, medicines, surgery, etc. If you have very expensive goldfish and/or are breeding, you want to read this book.
